Artist Block Talk at the Echo Park Film Center

Screen Shot 2015-07-10 at 3.18.15 AM

SparkleBlob gave it’s first workshop in the form of a conversation about Artist Blocks with yours truly, Julianna Parr (that’s me writing this.) For two hours I had a captive audience at the Echo Park Film Center!

I screened three short films:

Duck Amuck – To illustrate how creativity can really be a pain in the butt

The Dot and the Line – This was a film that made quite an impression on me as a youngster, and implored me to find new and different ways to be creative.

The Tender Game – This beautiful Hubley film changed my life. It hands down offered me an example of conveying emotion in a distinctly heartfelt and organic way that I never knew was possible.

I then gave away to each attendee a pair of paper dice, which can be glued together then tossed about and used to take you down a pathway toward fruition of some of your ideas. I suspect this is not the last time I give this little presentation, so keep a look out for when it comes around again.

There is also talk about a puppet-building workshop on the horizon…

Robot Fortunes for Yuri’s Night 2015

Yuri’s Night is a global celebration of humanity’s past, present, and future in space.

In our never-ending quest to bring together the arts and sciences, SparkleBlob built a robot that uses the psychic forces of divination to tell your fortune. Don’t worry, we know how much that makes scientists roll their eyes, but that’s why we’re here, to further connect and shoot toward the stars with even the wackiest of ideas.

We hope to take this robot on the road so that it may help many people in nudging them toward cosmic excellence. Taking the S-BLOB 5000 on it’s first mission underneath the very colossal and glorious Space Shuttle Endeavor is not too shabby, lemme tell you!

With the help of a state-of-the-art team of expert technicians (Lori Meeker, Heather Harkins, Coral Lobera, Nancy Jean Tucker, Jed McGowan) we were able to help over 200 people with their paranormal predilections. We also saw Darth Vader, the Dalek from Dr. Who, quite a few extra terrestrial lifeforms, and many groovy scientific types, including: Astronaut, Mae Carol Jemison!

We were so excited to be a part of Yuri’s Night that we’re already in the planning stage for the 2016 party! Want to know more? Check it out here!

CraftNight’s Love-In Valentine Party!

Love in all of it’s bizarre and wondrous forms was available at the CraftNight Love-In Valentine Party! Crafters were given access to specialty ephemera and other printed goodies to make all kinds of lovey-dovey, crazy, naughty and nice love tokens. We screened The Apple and had a raffle for some very exciting prizes, it was truly a deluxe affair to remember. If you’d like to view all of the photos from the good times, check out our Love-In gallery of images on Facebook, taken by Roz Helfand!
