Join Silverlake’s most well-adjusted family as they spend their holiday vacation in the rustic, arid climate of the California desert, where the tumbleweeds tumble, and murmurs on the wind blow cool wind through your hair. Young Judy Haversham would love to be just about anywhere else, and is not in the mood for a journey encompassing a curious mixture of reality and imagination, which is, of course, just fine.

SparkleBlob’s 6th annual Holiday Puppet Show delivers expressly to you a hilarious and somewhat existential musical excursion through time and space that will warm your heart into happy holiday goop! Presented at Automata in exciting and scenic Chinatown, the show will once again include before and after rides on the famed ‘trike’ plus delicious pre and after show treats and libations. Original and reproductions of “Doublewide Roadside Show Art” will be available for purchase. Written by the superbly talented Julianna (JP) Parr and Shannon Gallagher and directed by JP, the show will also feature puppets of original design, a rockin’ cast and The DingleBell Hollies (live band), and surprises galore! Don’t miss the fun–adults and kids alike will love the show!

Gothtober 2013 is ALIVE!

SparkleBlob would like to thank all participants, volunteers, patrons and performers in what was a wonderful Fall Fundraiser! More news on that is coming up verily, you can check out photos of the event here. In the meantime, another SparkleBlob program has begun it’s yearly launch and is full steam ahead!

What’s Gothtober, you may ask?

In it’s eleventh year, The Gothtober Countdown Calendar™ is a curated time-release flash-based online museum of 31 works of art by 31 different artists. The official run of the show is from October 1st to the 31st, a new piece being revealed with each day of the month. The best way to see what it is though, is by visiting it!

Gothtober is one of SparkleBlob’s programs, a spirited forum that encourages people to take part in creating something seasonal, strange and spooky.

In many instances, in the busy life, one must carve out opportunities to be creative. The world’s demands are formidable, and the unglamorous part of creativity is the staving off or shutting out of distractions, and clearing out a place for one’s own ambitions. Anyone who appreciates making creative work, or who wants to make creative work needs to experience this conundrum face-to-face, it brings satisfaction to the artist, and makes them understand and appreciate their fellow participants.

The habit of frequency is merely ONE aspect of maintaining the mind’s requirements for bringing forth ideas and bringing said ideas to fruition. During Gothtober, it has been found that ingesting a fair amount of candy corn can help with alertness, followed by a refreshing cat nap.

You can also read about the interesting back story on each artist’s piece that launches day by day, when you visit the Gothtober Blog. Happy Viewing! -JP Head Candycorn
